Heart Walk

There are quite a few of you that are interested in participating in the American Heart Association Walk on April 17th. It's going to be great fun! I have created a team for our alliance, so we can take part together. Please follow the steps below to sign up for the walk.

- Click on the red circle in the middle of the page that says, "Register"
- Accept the terms
- Then, click "Join a Team"
- Our team's name is 'Oklahoma Medical Student Alliance.' I am listed as the team leader.

Based on responses to my original email, there are about 10 ladies that want to participate. I put our team recruitment goal at 12, but if we exceed that number it would rock! I also had to list a donation goal, so I thought if each of us could raise $50.00, that would bring our total donation to $600.00. Of course, if you can raise more than that, it would be fabulous!! Or, if you don't have time for fundraising, just sign up to join us in the walk. It will be fun and healthy for our own hearts - in more than one way.

FYI: The website also lists easy ways in which you can fundraise: emails to friends, family, etc. So feel free to snoop around the site . . . If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me or call me. If you have issues with the website and/or signing up, let me know that, too, so I can straighten the issues out.

wanna go for a walk?

There have been a few changes in the way we are going to give of our time to others.

So, since the school year is on the downhill slide, it's pretty much too late to get too involved with a specific charity as we had planned. But, we don't want to go the entire spring without getting together and doing something.

So, this is what I was thinking . . .
On April 17th the American Heart Association is hosting a walk downtown. I thought this would be fun for us to enter as a group. Plus, no need to train for this one, only walking required! This is a great way for us to get together as a team, get a bit of exercise and support a great cause.

So, let me know if you are interested in joining up and I will follow up with details as soon as I know about how many of you are interested. Thank you!

Have a great weekend & a great SPRING BREAK
(if you are lucky enough to get one)!!!

For those of you that are planning on attending the training session at the Infant Crisis Center, we have a time now.

Please do not hesitate to call Callie if you have questions or concerns.

Even if you have never attended an Alliance event, we would absolutely love to see you there! So, please come - pretty please?!

**Email calliedot@gmail.com to let me know that you are planning on joining us. :) **

Volunteers needed!

OKDHS has a child in Children's Hospital and the doctor has asked for "round the clock" supervision. He is 7 weeks old and has 15 bone fractures. We need volunteers to take 3 hour (or longer) shifts throughout the weekend. The worker has been staying overnight with the baby, but if any volunteers are willing to do that- the worker would really appreciate a night off. She said that the baby is in a lot of pain so he wakes up and cries a lot. We need to coordinate immediately the times people can help so DHS workers can plan on being there any other times.

Child: Baby Justin R..

Age: 7 weeks

Worker info: Michelle Martin: 248-8347; Cindy Bryson (sup): 590-0745

IMPORTANT: You must be a qualified DHS volunteer or a current resource (foster) family and in good health. Please contact the worker above or amber.brune@cox.net for more information.

Volunteer Opportunity: Kitchen Tours

This is a volunteer oppurtunity you do not want to miss!!! You will have a blast!
Kitchen Tours Needs Volunteers!
The proceeds from this year's Kitchen Tour will go to the: Schools for Healthy Lifestyles, and Health Alliance for the Uninsured.
The Kitchen Tour will be on October 25th (Sunday). We have 5 homes in the Nichols Hills Area.
The 5 homes are:
1. 1210 Larchmont Lane
2. 1709 Camden Way
3. 6917 Grand Blvd.
4. 1714 Coventry Lane
5. 2431 Grand Circle
We are running 3- 2hr shifts: 11am-1pm, 1-3pm, 3-5pm.
For a couple of hours you will be helping the host give out samples of food by professional chefs in some of Nichols Hills' most beautiful kitchens!
We would appreciate all the help we can get. Please email Aurora Macaraeg auroramac529@yahoo.com if you would like to participate.
If you're not sure or have questions, you can call me at 785.817.9095 and I'd be glad to tell you more about it and share with you when and where I'll be volunteering. I missed out on this my first year because I didn't know if I would know anyone going. Shame on me! Trust me when I say, you don't need to! People (doctor's and resident's wives) are so friendly and will absolutely welcome you in open arms because you are apart of the medical community and you are extremely important to their success as a county Alliance. If it weren't for the med school and resident spouses joining in, they're membership would die out over time. So seriously think about doing this, because it is a really, really neat oppurtunity. The houses are rediculously nice!
Cheers!

ReThread Donations Needed.

This was an email from Ashley Melson about a kids clothing
drive that is needing donations.

Hi friends!
Our church is getting ready for our quarterly "ReThread" kids' clothing drive, so I just wanted to put this out to everyone who might know someone with kids' clothes they won't be using anymore. ReThread is an awesome event where kids in need from the OKC community can come and "shop" for nice clothes in a really fun and welcoming environment.
The space where we meet is set up to resemble a Baby Gap or other fun clothing store with displays and a play area, and each family is given a co-shopper who gets to know them and helps them find what they need. It's a fun twist on the clothing closet idea, and kids get to leave with awesome new-to-them clothes and an experience that makes them feel really special. So, if you have any baby/kids/teen clothes that you are no longer using or know someone who does, this is a great way to donate! At the last store we served over 100 families, and each store is growing. We have also had more and more teenage girls who are looking for clothes, so if you have any of your own clothes to donate that would be awesome too.
Anyway, just wanted to put that out there :) Take care!

Ashley

Here is the information about where the donations are going.

Hello,

We are now about 1 month away from our FallRE:THREADstore and are in desperate need of clothing. Please take time in the next couple of weeks to gather up any gently used children/teen clothing that you might have avaialble to donate. Please also remember to talk to co-workers, friends nieghbors etc. about RE:THREAD. Feel free to forward this email to anyone who you feel might be interested in donating clothing.

It would help us tremendoursly if all donated clothing could be placed inside a tub prior to delivering it. Having it already inside a tub saves us a ton of time and cost. As always, if you don't have clothing to donate this season but would be willing to donate empty tubs, that would be awesome!

At this point I am asking people who have clothing and tub donations to just contact me to make arrangements for picking it up. I can be contacted at rethreadokc@convergenceokc.org or 405-209-7439.

Thanks again for your willingness to serve the families in and around the Plaza District through RE:THREAD! Additional information regarding the Fall store will come soon!

Sincerely,

The Freund Family
