Rocks & Runs & Test Block, oh my!

Howdy, all!  Man, it seems like it's been a while since I've sent one of these out!  Couple of things going on:

POTLUCK
Thurs Nov 4, @ 6:30 - ?
Aubrae Filipiak  /  2505 NW 12th, OKC  /  845.702.5480
It's test block week for all us 2nd years, and I just realized that we have nothing planned - guess I've been slacking a bit!  I'm going to host a potluck at my house this Thursday, Nov 4 beginning at 6:30.  I'll make up a big ol' pot of soup, have some bread and some drinks.  If you'd like to come, bring a small dish to share and a beverage, if you want anything specific.  Drop me a quick note/phone call/text to let me know you're coming, if you would please.  (And, PS, last time I did a potluck EVERYONE brought dessert - let's diversify a bit, please!!)

ROCKS
Some of you might remember our botched attempt to go rock climbing last year - not enough RSVPd to get us the group rate, but then after the fact a billion people told me that they would've gone.   There will be a cost associated with this course - the total cost depends on the size of our group (more ppl = less $$), but will not exceed $20/person (and, depending on interest could be much lower).  The cost covers a 60 min belay class, shoes/harness rental and access to the gym for the rest of that day.  If you have your own shoes/harness, your cost will be reduced. If at all possible I'd like to do this in the next month or so, before it starts to get too cold!  So let's try this again: if you are interested in attending a group Intro to Climbing class at Rocktown, please send an email to: oustudentalliance@gmail.com with the subject line ROCKS.

RUNS
The OKC Marathon is Sunday, May 1, 2011 and I want to get a training group together for it.  There are options for all fitness/ambition levels: the full 26.2 miles, a half marathon (13.1), a 26.2 mi relay (btw 5 runners) and a 5K walk.  If you are interested in training for this or just having a group of people to run/walk with on a regular basis, this is for you!  Here's the site for more info, including registration deadlines.  I'll most likely be training for the half, and have a friend who's a regular marathoner, as well as a track/field coach, putting together some training plans for me that we will use as a guide. Our plan will likely include 3 group training runs each week: 1 sprint and/or hill workout, 1 short run and 1 long run. If you're interested in running with me, please send an email to oustudentalliance@gmail.com with the subject line RUNS.  In the email, please tell me the best two weeknights for you to do short runs.

That's it for now - see ya soon!

pumpkin decorating

Our pumpkin decorating party was delightful.  Kathy Bookman and Donna Parker, VP and president of OCMSA, helped host it...and a wonderful time was had by all.  We enjoyed some good white chicken chili, traditional chili, hot cider, some apple drink concoction that was delicious, and adorable cupcakes!  It was a perfect October event and we wanted to share some of the photos with you!

kick-off event

We're kicking off this new school year at the Wedge on Western... Come meet some new people, reacquaint yourself with some old ones and have some fabulous pizza, to boot!

The Wedge features one of OKC's best outdoor dining areas - there's a patio with tables and umbrellas, some lovely shade trees and a bocce court. It's fantastic! We'll buy a round of pizzas for everyone to share, but please be prepared to pay for your own dri
nks, and additional food, if you'd like something more!

If you would like to RSVP, click here. But no RSVP is required for this one - just show up when you can and feel free to bring along any other Alliance member or potential member who may not be on our mailing list yet!

If you have any questions, you can email us at oustudentalliance@gmail.com or call Aubrae @ 845.702.5480.

end of the year picnic

Beautiful friends,

The school year is quickly drawing to a close. To honor the work we've done, the fun we've had and the friends we've made in the last 9 months, please plan to attend our Farewell Picnic.
This picnic is open to ALL alliance members - if you've come to one event, come to them all or none at all, we'd love to see you at this one! The specifics:

Wednesday, May 12 @ 6:30 pm - ??
Mesta Park
- between NW 18th-NW 19th and Shartel-Lee
(Rain location: 2505 NW 12th St)

We will provide all the food and drink (think scrummy upscale picnic nibbles), please just bring yourself, your kids, your dogs, your friends - whomever you'd like to join you in the festivities. If everyone can also bring their own non-disposable place setting (plate, fork, glass, napkin), we can make this an environmentally friendly event. I will make sure to bring a few extras, in case you can't or you forget!

In addition to noshing, the park has a playground, ample space for running, frolicking or tossing a frisbee and is surrounded by posh homes to ogle - something for everyone!

At 7pm, we will introduce the officers for the 2010-11 school year, as well as thank/bid adieu to our outgoing officers, with a little toast.

Please RSVP to medicalspousealliance@yahoo.com by Friday, May 7 if you plan to attend, so I know how much food to prepare.

See you there!

Misty's got a Wii, plus some awesome games and no one to play with - we can fix that, right!? So, she's gonna have some sandwiches and soft drinks, if you can, bring a snack or some finger food to share.

Please RSVP directly to Misty, so she knows what to expect. You can reach her at misty.quach@gmail.com or 405-620-4696. And if you're going, reach out to someone you know who hasn't been to an event recently and bring them with you... The more the merrier!

Girls' Night OUT!

The "outs" have it! We're going to the Paseo!!

Right now, there are about 6 of us going and I know parking can be a bit squirrely during the gallery walks. There is a public parking lot on 30th, just west of Dewey, plus you can try your luck at on street parking. Let's meet in front of the Paseo Grill at 6:30 pm. If you can, carpool! Call me if you have trouble finding it - 845-702-5480.

Also, there's about a 30% chance of rain for Friday. I say if it's just a drizzle, let's suck it up and continue as planned. If it's a downpour, we'll use the "in" plan as a backup, so meet at my house at 6:30. Everyone do a "no-rain dance"!

See you ladies on Friday!

Movie Night!

Come all ye fair movie lovers!! Thursday, April 8th, 7:00 PM - at Callie's house. Please email or call for directions.

There will be popcorn, candy, and . . . cupcakes (this has significance with the movie we are watching . . .) Please feel free to bring whatever you want to snack on, as well.

Anyway, it will be a good time to veg out and watch a girlie flick while our men are studying, working rotations, etc.

Callie - 245-7799

Girls' Night

I know this is terribly last minute, but I feel like I haven't seen most of you in forever! Let's fix that - First and Second year-ers, this is the weekend before test block and we all know the boys will be buried in work. For me, that normally means hanging out on the couch, with the dog, watching What Not to Wear or Say Yes To The Dress (I heart TLC!). But hey, figured I'd see if any of you want to hang out instead!

I've got two ideas:
Girl's Night Out: First Fridays in the Paseo
All the lovely little galleries in the Paseo are open from 6-10, some w/ live music, free food and more. Let's go wander in and out and look at some art, then get a drink or two at one of the fantastic restaurants/bars there. The wandering bit is free, the drinking is up to you!

Girl's Night In: Fun and Games at My House
Come over to my house and hang out - we'll order pizza, have some wine and play board games!! I have a million versions of Trivial Pursuit, plus Clue, Scrabble, Monopoly and more. And bring your own fave games, too. A very low key evening w/ friends.

And of course, this is not just an invitation for the First/Seconds - if your man's a Third, Fourth, MPH or whatever - come play!! Let me know if you're coming and whether you vote In or Out!

Movie Night!

Hellloooo! Hope you're all enjoying the spring break and the fantastic weather we've been having! No, we haven't forgotten about movie night this month - the details are below.

Tuesday, March 23rd @ 6:30 pm
Stacy Dunn's House -
3805 NW 58th St., OKC, OK 73112

Stacy has volunteered to make us enchiladas for dinner - bring your favorite salsa and it'll be a fiesta!! Please RSVP to this address and call Stacy @ 785.817.9095 if you have any questions!

wine tasting

So, it's taken a while, but finally, the event we've all been waiting for:

Wine Tasting
Saturday, March 13th
7:30-9:30 pm
$5.00/person

We will gather at the home of Dr and Mrs Bookman. Mrs Bookman is a member of the county Alliance who has graciously offered her home to us for this event (and I hear it's quite the place!). Prior to tasting, I'll give a brief wine primer to the group, hand out some basic notes and tasting sheets. I'll guide us through a group tasting, in which we'll taste several wines of varying styles, at least 8, at most 12.

There will be light hors d'oeuvres, but plan to have some dinner beforehand! And let's dress up, not a ton, but just a little bit - make it a bit of a swanky, sophisticated party, no?

Also - bring your husbands/fiances/boyfriends, if they're available and you want to! If not, come anyway. It's going to be so much fun!

The $5 goes to offset the cost of wine/food. Please RSVP to this email if you plan to come, so that I can get an accurate idea of budget - the amount of money will dramatically affect the quality of wines we will taste!

If you have any questions at all, give Aubrae a call @ 845-702-5480.
